He [the Word, the One we know as Jesus,] was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. – John 1:2-3
Jesus was there. He was with God in the beginning, yet he was much more than just a witness of Creation. He created it all — there is NOTHING that has been created that Jesus did not make happen. Yes, this Jesus also allowed himself to be limited to human flesh and endured a cruel and agonizing death on a cross. This Jesus was there at the beginning as the Word, speaking our world into existence. He had made everything. It is his. Yet when humanity stained it with rebellion and sin, he came and died to redeem it. More specifically, he came to redeem you and me. So when the One who is the Word speaks to us, telling us how to live to please God, don’t you think we’d better pay attention? Better yet, don’t you think we should do what the Word says?
