Anything that replaces God in your life is an idol..!
An idol is when something or someone becomes more important to us than God..
In ancient times that would have looked like bowing down to worship a golden statue. Modern-day idols look different- more like getting our identity from our job or staring at our technology all day..
Even good things can become idols when we make them the ultimate things in our lives. Anything, or anyone, can become an idol if we place the value for that thing/person above our value for God..
Self can be an idol; People can be idols; Family can be idols.; Jobs can be idols; Success can be an idol; Money can be an idol; Sex can be an idol; A relationship can become an idol; Social media, entertainment and games can be an idol and even a ministry could become a god – therefore be careful..
You shall not make for yourself any idol, or any likeness, form, manifestation, of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth, as an object to worship.
“Therefore, my beloved, run [keep far, far away] from [any sort of] idolatry [and that includes loving anything more than God, or participating in anything that leads to sin and enslaves the soul]…..”(1 Corinthians 10:14)
