Day 11

We do not discover the true nature of ourselves until after we are placed in a position of power & influence..
That is because we are all skilled at pretension & deception – we work hard at making the outside look good while leaving the inside untouched..
We get glimpses of ourselves through working above, alongside or for others..
Our relationships with people and our responses to the events of life will bring into focus both our qualities and our blemishes, both our strong points and our weaknesses..
If our self-image is to be meaningful, it must be measured against a standard..
The Bible provides the standard, for the Bible is “a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12)..
For example, if you find bitterness in your heart toward others, you must measure yourself against the biblical standard which states: “Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude.” (Ephesians 4:31)..
Self-discovery can be painful. We try to hide our true self from others..
Marriage, parenthood, a social situation, or your job may be the means to discovering your true self..
But do not look for the root of your problem in your marriage partner or children or an uncooperative neighbor or colleague; rather look for it in yourself..
For a life of peace, you must first discover your true self. Then to know what you have found, you must measure it by God’s standard..
You will find yourself short–everyone does..
This is the reason you need the help that only Jesus Christ can give you. He alone can make you what you ought to be..
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.”….(Romans 3:23-24)
