[John the Baptist said when asked if he was the Christ, the Messiah:] “I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him. The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.” —John 3:28-29

John the Baptist is an incredible example of a servant. He lived his life for one central and controlling purpose — to prepare others to recognize, welcome, and follow Jesus Christ as Messiah and Lord. Can you think of a greater purpose for your life? Let’s live so that when our last days approach, we can also say, “That joy is mine, and it is now complete,” because we have prepared the way for Jesus to enter the hearts of those we love and will leave behind when our life is over.
