Antioch was a great church in the first century. God blessed this church with both Jewish and Gentile disciples who were very talented. These disciples were the first followers of Jesus in the New Testament who were called Christians. Many of these new Christians taught and evangelized others in their community and the region around them. These “many others” who “taught and preached the word of the Lord“ remind us that the power of the early Church was not limited to its well-known leaders. Church life in Antioch involved its members’ dedication to ministering and using the gifts that God had given them to serve others. “Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.” Acts 15:35.
