Practical loving concerns for the powerless and forgotten widows, fatherless, and foreigners among us. Showing love, concern, and care to all was essential to God and a concern embraced by the early church leaders. Paul later reminded Timothy, and us, that we must have the same concern for widows and the marginalized today! (Notice that James extends that same concern for both widows and orphans James 1:27) “Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.” 1 Timothy 5:3.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also
