Day 2

Jesus calls out to us, “Come, follow me” and this call is to be his disciple.” He is always inviting us along the path that he is traveling. His invitation is also to die to ourselves, to trade all that we have, and to be made new. Following Jesus frees us from carrying the burden of our own sin because He has already done that work. To take His yoke is to commit to Him and put ourselves under the authority and obedience of Jesus. Jesus invites us to put down our heavy load for His “yoke is easy, and his burden is light”. We can carry heavy yokes in the form of religion, self justification through our works, unbelief and wrong beliefs etc. His great desire is that we find the rest we so desperately need, which is a rest that only He can give. And so He calls us to come to him, a command loaded with burden-lifting grace and mercy. Jesus wants for us to live by faith in him, to rest on the promises of God. If we would let him, He would exchange the unbearable yoke for an easy yoke and a light burden. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Mat 11:28-30″
