Do not get into foolish & ignorant talk nor into useless discussions over unedifying (not morally uplifting or instructive) arguments since you know that they produce strife (conflict) & give birth to quarrels..
Instead, stay in faith & keep a good attitude..
1. Empty arguments divide.
There will always be those people who are just divisive and who seem to enjoy stirring up conflict for conflict’s sake. However, the gospel of Jesus Christ unites believers; it does not divide us..
2. Empty arguments divert.
When you come upon one, just keep moving away from it. You are not likely to help the cause of Christ, but you may hurt it!
3. Empty arguments destroy.
Empty arguments are destructive arguments. Those who engage in empty and disrespectful speech will “produce even more godlessness, and their teaching will spread like gangrene”..
Given the close relations, you may not be able to simply disregard or walk away from family members who say ignorant things. Focus on being as polite and sensitive as you can, and try to diffuse any uncomfortable situations with the mind of Christ..
“Stay away from all the foolish arguments of the immature, for these disputes will only generate more conflict. For a true servant of our Lord Jesus will not be argumentative but gentle toward all and skilled in helping others see the truth, having great patience toward the immature. Then with meekness you’ll be able to carefully enlighten those who argue with you so they can see God’s gracious gift of repentance and be brought to the truth. This will cause them to rediscover themselves and escape from the snare of satan who caught them in his trap so that they would carry out his purposes…..” (2 Timothy 2:23-26)
